Bio

Arkady Alexeev, born in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1937, has spent many years studying European languages and history. He graduated from the Leningrad Herzen Institute, specializing in English and French, and then taught English there.

Since arriving in America in 1975, he has been teaching Russian and history. In 1986 he got his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, and has been teaching Russian as well as history there ever since. He began his literary work with translations from Russian and French, wrote a historical play and newspaper articles. He has always been fascinated by French history and in 1999 - 2001 travelled to Italy, France and Spain to visit places associated with Giulio Mazarini's life.

The author would like to express gratitude to his son Sasha (www.SashaMusic.com) who first suggested that his father write a big historical novel.
